Expressive Landscape Painting Workshop

from £95.00

Saturday 27th September / Sunday 28th September [option to attend day 1 or both days].

Bookings must be made through the National Trust website [awaiting link.] Participants DO NOT need to be National Trust members and the entry fee is waived for the duration of the workshop.

A fun and informative 1 or 2 day workshop in which I will be demonstrating my expressive approach to landscape painting using Acrylic paints and mediums. The workshop will cover various techniques and processes and focus on creating landscape paintings, full of layers, texture and depth.

Participants will be encouraged to loosen up and become more confident in their painting, focusing on developing your own individual voice and style.

Due to the small group size you will receive personalised support, experiment with various tools and materials and learn how to incorporate mediums and additives to achieve a variety of marks and surface finishes. The workshop will also cover elements of composition, tone, complimentary colour palettes and consideration of edges alongside a deeper dive into other painting techniques and processes on the second day.

It will also include plenty of tutor demonstrations, time for exploring ideas and opportunity for 1:1 feedback.

Experience

No prior experience of Acrylic painting is needed, just a willingness to explore and experiment through some focussed exercises and developing a painting [or more than 1].

As a tutor, I hold a PGCE and have been delivering art workshops for over 10 years. I am an elected Academician with the South West Academy of Fine and Applied Art and have an established art practice that includes gallery representation and exhibiting UK wide.

What will be covered

  • Introduction to Acrylic paints and mediums

  • Basic techniques for understanding composition, perspective, colour mixing and tone.

  • Using colour and other techniques to add depth and light.

  • Tools, materials and mediums to achieve a variety of mark-making.

  • Creating both visual and physical texture.

  • Day 2 – a deeper dive into painting techniques and processes, loosening up your approach and working intuitively.

Location

The workshop will take place at the historic National Trust site at Buckland Abbey, a beautiful venue in the heart of the Dartmoor landscape. A lovely National Trust cafe offers a selection of hot and cold meals and snacks so no need to bring your own lunch if you don’t wish to!

Buckland Abbey, Yelverton Devon PL20 6EY

Materials

You will be required to provide your own paints but supplementary supplies will be available to use. Price also includes use of tools and equipment if needed.

Whilst there will be opportunity to go out into the Abbey grounds to take photos and/or sketch, you will also need to bring some reference material relating to a landscape of your choice, which you could work from. More information will be sent following booking.

A full materials list will be sent on confirmation of booking .
