Expressive Landscape Workshop
22nd November 2025 10.30am - 4.30pm
Bookings must be made through the National Trust website - [awaiting link.]
Participants DO NOT need to be National Trust members. Entry fee is waived.
A fun and informative 1 day workshop in which I will be demonstrating my expressive approach to landscape painting, covering various techniques and processes to focus on creating landscape paintings full of layers, texture and depth.
The workshop is suitable for beginners who have limited painting experience as well as improvers looking to adopt a looser approach to their work. The foundations of painting will be covered, including composition, tone and complimentary colour palettes and mark-making, as well as use of additional materials, personalised support and 1:1 feedback.
If sufficient interest, a follow up day will be offered for those keen to take a deeper dive into additional materials, collage, inks and exploring of ideas.
Experience
No prior experience of acrylic painting is needed, just a willingness to explore and experiment.
Location
The workshop will take place at the National Trust site at Buckland Abbey near Yelverton, Devon, a beautiful venue in the heart of the Dartmoor landscape. A lovely National Trust cafe offers a selection of hot and cold meals and snacks so no need to bring your own lunch if you don’t wish to!
Materials
You will be provided with 2 canvas boards to encourage you to work on more than one piece at a time. I would recommend you also bring an additional canvas, board or paper in your preferred size. You will also be required to provide your own paints but supplementary supplies will be available to use. Price also includes use of tools and equipment if needed.
You will also need to bring some reference material in relation to a landscape of your choice, which you could work from.
More information and a full materials list will be sent on confirmation of booking .
Other Information
10.30am - 4.30 pm each day, with a 45 minute lunch break. All day refreshments will be provided.
Maximum participants 8.
Cancellation policy - please read before booking.
