Painting for Beginners - 28th March 2026.

This fun 1-day workshop is a beginners guide to painting for people keen to paint but not sure where to start. Using Acrylics as our medium I will guide you through the basics of what makes for a successful painting using a variety of tools and approaches. Acrylic paint is a forgiving and user-friendly medium that provides a solid foundation for painting in other media.
Using the landscape as a reference, I will demonstrate a range of painting methods, including underpainting, impasto and the use of textural effects to create depth and atmosphere. I will also cover basics such as brush handling, palette knife techniques, composition, colour-mixing, tone and perspective.
Experience: The workshop is aimed at beginners and early stage painters, although may suit more seasoned painters who are new to Acrylics or want to loosen up.
What will be covered:
Using different tools, surfaces and equipment
Understanding composition and perspective
Colour-mixing to create atmosphere
Using tone [light & shade] to create impact
Creating texture and depth
Where: The Art House, Totnes Rd, South Brent, Devon TQ10 9BP. Free on-site parking [space permitting].
In an Nutshell:
One full day of tuition (10am-4.30pm)
Maximum 6 participants
Free-flowing refreshments
Friendly, relaxed and informal environment
Price includes materials & equipment **
** Materials include use of student grade paints and acrylic paper - if you wish to use an alternative surface such as canvas or your own paints please bring these with you.
