Acrylic Painting for Beginners - 28th March 2026
A fun 1-day workshop where you will experiment with acrylic paint using a variety of tools and expressive approaches. Acrylics are a forgiving and fun medium that provide a solid foundation for painting in other media.
Using the landscape as a reference, I will demonstrate a range of painting methods, including underpainting, impasto and the use of textural effects to create depth and atmosphere. I will also cover basics such as brush handling, palette knife techniques, composition, colour-mixing, tone and perspective.
Experience: The workshop is aimed at beginners and early stage painters, although may suit more seasoned painters who are new to Acrylics or want to loosen up.
What will be covered:
Using different tools, surfaces and equipment
Understanding composition and perspective
Colour-mixing to create atmosphere
Using tone [light & shade] to create impact
Creating texture and depth
Where: The Art House, Totnes Rd, South Brent, Devon TQ10 9BP. Free on-site parking [space permitting].
Other Details
10.00 - 4.30pm, with a 45-minute lunch break
Price includes use of materials & equipment.
Maximum of 6 participants.
Tea and coffee available throughout the day.
If you wish to continue exploring materials and techniques, a good follow-on is the Mixed Media weekend in June. If both are booked, a 5% discount will apply - please use MMDISCOUNT at checkout.
Please ensure you read the Workshop T&C’s before booking.
