Cold Wax Painting: An Introduction - 17th October 2026

£125.00

Unlock your creativity in this exciting 1-day workshop! Explore the expressive potential of cold wax painting, experimenting with opaque and transparent colours, using a variety of mark-making techniques and a range of tools—from palette knives and squeegees to brayers and brushes. I will demonstrate my approach to using this versatile medium and offer practical guidance with time for hands-on practice, so you will leave with an understanding of the techniques.

Cold wax transforms how we can use oil paint, with faster drying time and offering the ability to layer more quickly, it invites a more instinctive way of working. Perfect for artists of all levels looking to push boundaries and discover new possibilities!

For the workshop we will be using the landscape as a loose reference but you will be encouraged to put away any photographs or sketches and work intuitively, allowing the process to lead you through a process of experimentation and, if desired, abstraction.

What will be covered:

  • Using cold wax medium with traditional oil paints

  • Experimenting with a variety of techniques and mark-making

  • Creating texture and depth

  • Using additional materials such as pastel

  • Using different tools and surfaces

Experience: Suitable for anyone new to oils and cold wax or looking for different ways of using traditional materials.

Venue: The Art House, South Brent, Devon TQ10 9BP. Easily accessed from the A38, with free on-site parking.

Other Details:

  • 10.00 - 4.30pm, with a 45-minute lunch break

  • Price includes use of materials & equipment

  • Maximum 6 participants

  • Tea and coffee available throughout the day
