Sketchbook to Canvas - May 2026 [3 Days]

£285.00

This 3 day workshop offers a unique opportunity to explore ways of capturing and recording information directly in the landscape and developing this into larger paintings in the studio. Sketches and studies made on-site are often fast and loose and more spontaneous but these characteristics can be lost when transitioning to a ‘finished’ painting.

With guided support you will be encouraged to explore ways of moving forward from initial studies in a way that aims to maintain a freedom and looseness in your work.

What to expect:

Day 1 will be spent in the Dartmoor landscape sketching and using other methods of recording information such as watercolour studies, collaging and continuous line drawing. This will be followed by 2 full studio days developing the information into paintings, using either acrylics, oils or mixed media.

Who would this workshop suit?

You do not need to be skilled at drawing or have any experience of sketching but some painting experience would be an advantage [although not essential]. Most importantly you will be willing to experiment and remain open-minded to possibilities.

When: Studio days May 16th & 17th. Dartmoor days May 7th OR 14th [dependent on weather]

Where: The Art House, Totnes Rd, South Brent, Devon TQ10 9BP

Payment: A split payment can be arranged if needs be. If interested in this option or would like a chat about the workshop, what to expect or whether it would be suitable for you, then please call 07393 317751 or get in touch here.

In a nutshell:

  • One day capturing and recording information in the landscape [10am-2pm]

  • Two full days tuition (10am-4pm)

  • Maximum 6 participants

  • Materials for the Dartmoor day are provided

  • Free-flowing refreshments
